NearLingua privacy and cookie notice

Who operates NearLingua

NearLingua is operated by Fransina Nakale, who is responsible for your personal data. For privacy questions, access or deletion requests, contact nearlingua-support@googlegroups.com.

Signing in with Google

If you choose Google sign-in, Google shares your Google account identifier, email address and basic profile information, such as your name and profile picture, with our authentication provider, Supabase. We use this information to create or identify your NearLingua account, sign you in and connect you with your saved learning progress. NearLingua does not receive your Google password and does not request access to your Gmail messages, contacts, Google Drive files or calendar.

Your account information is stored by Supabase. We do not sell Google user data or use it for advertising or to train AI models. Optional product analytics uses your NearLingua account identifier rather than your Google name or email address. You can remove NearLingua’s Google connection in your Google Account connections. Removing that connection does not itself delete your NearLingua account or saved progress; contact us to request deletion.

Information used to provide your learning

NearLingua stores learning progress, preferences, saved items and placement results in your browser. An optional uploaded profile picture is stored on your device. Supabase handles account authentication and stores a copy of signed-in users’ learning progress so it can be restored when they sign in again.

Answers sent for marking and feedback are processed by the configured marking service. Voice activities, where enabled, require microphone permission and may send recordings to speech providers. Feedback contains the message you choose to submit and limited technical context. Avoid including sensitive personal information in practice answers or feedback.

Services that help operate NearLingua

Vercel hosts the website; Cloudflare provides domain and audio-delivery services; Supabase provides authentication, account storage and assessment processing; and Brevo delivers account emails. Google provides the Google sign-in option and hosts our support group. PostHog provides optional product analytics after you accept it, and Sentry receives technical error reports. These services may process information needed to provide their functions, including account identifiers, email-delivery information, network addresses and technical request details.

Browser storage and optional analytics

Essential storage supports sign-in, progress, language choices and privacy preferences. Optional product analytics is disabled until you choose “Accept All Cookies”. Choosing “Essentials only” does not prevent learning. You can withdraw analytics consent using “Cookie preferences” in the Privacy & terms menu or website footer. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals are respected for analytics.

Aggregate website traffic

Vercel Web Analytics measures page visits, approximate location, referrers and device types without cookies. These aggregate statistics operate separately from optional PostHog learning analytics and do not include your account identifier, name, email or lesson answers. We remove query strings and fragments from page URLs before sending them. Browser Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals disable this traffic measurement. Vercel uses a temporary visitor hash that is discarded after 24 hours; these counts are estimates, not a register of individual people.

Employer enquiries and outreach

With optional analytics consent, PostHog records employer-page visits and clicks on enquiry email links, including the selected role or button and recognised outreach campaign and batch tags. A random identifier lasts only for the current page; it is not linked to your learning account. We do not send names, email addresses, training brief answers or arbitrary URL parameters. These clicks indicate an email link was selected, not that a message was sent. You can change your choice using Cookie preferences in the employer-page footer. Choosing “Allow optional analytics” there shares the same analytics preference as “Accept All Cookies” on the learning platform.

Error reporting

When configured, error monitoring receives technical crash information to help maintain the service. Request bodies, cookies and headers are removed from reports. NearLingua does not use session replay. Do not include passwords or sensitive information in error messages or feedback.

Your choices and rights

You can reset local learning history in Settings and remove your profile picture. Clearing site data in your browser removes local copies; it does not delete an account or server records. Depending on applicable law, you can request access, correction, deletion, portability or restriction of personal data, object to processing, and complain to your data-protection authority. Analytics consent can be withdrawn at any time.

Account data and deletion requests

Your Google sign-in details and saved learning progress remain associated with your NearLingua account until the account is deleted. To request access, correction or deletion, email nearlingua-support@googlegroups.com from the address associated with your account. We may ask you to confirm account ownership before acting. Signing out, clearing browser storage or disconnecting Google does not delete the server copy of your account.
